The 2012-2013 school year started off strong for Operation Fly with the first visitation on September 22, 2012. The visitation was held at Franklin Square in DC. Because many homeless people in the DC metropolitan area reside on the benches in this serene and massive park, it is an appropriate and convenient place for Operation Fly to serve food and give back to the community. 6 Operation Fly members served around 175 people, and although there were limited utensils and a lack of napkins, we made up for it in warmhearted service, water, hot spaghetti, and sauce for everyone. The people we served enjoyed the food immensely and serving them not only benefited them, but further made us realize how important it is to give back to the community in all ways that we can. It truly is a wonderful feeling.
